7 Ways to Save Money on Your Babymoon
With an open mind and some careful planning, even parents on a budget can plan a memorable babymoon.
You’re here either because you have a pregnant partner and have heard about push presents, or perhaps you’re looking to organize a group gift for a special mom-to-be in your life. Maybe you’re pregnant and are brainstorming push present ideas to hint at your partner because let’s face it, you deserve it! Either way, we’ve got you covered.
A somewhat new custom, push presents are a gift a mom receives from their partner as a token of appreciation for “pushing” out a beautiful baby (don’t worry C-section mommies—you count, too!). The female body goes through a lot of changes and pain through pregnancy and delivery, and a push present is meant to recognize and express gratitude to mom for her valiant feat.
More often than not push presents come as a gift from a doting partner, but really they can come from anyone who wants to congratulate mom on her pregnancy and delivery. Gifts can come from friends and family too, and a larger group gift can be just as special and personal.
As is the case with new traditions, there’s been some push-back on push presents. Some consider the practice too “Hallmark-y” or argue that “the baby is gift enough”—and we’re not claiming otherwise, of course. We do, however, love the idea of moms receiving their own gift for the miracle they’ve just performed, and we have a lot of ideas in case you’re looking for a little inspiration.
Jewelry is easily the most popular and traditional push present. Everything from engraved necklaces, lockets with baby’s picture or birthstone, charm bracelets, and even engraved army tags—jewelry is always a welcome gift, especially if it has a personal touch.
Incredibly intimate and memorable, every parent dreams of a collection of intimate newborn baby portraits. Whether you want to put them on display in your home or nursery, this is a gift that will truly last lifetimes. Even your children will thank you for them eventually.
Is mom in need of a new phone or laptop upgrade? Has she ever mentioned an interest in photography (and now she has a great first muse)? If you’re having a tough time deciding on a gift, tech is a sure fire winner.
Once your new bundle of joy arrives, it may become more and more difficult to make time for a date night with your partner. Instead skip the excuses, cover all the bases, and plan ahead for a romantic night out—or in—that the both of you will never forget.
Dinner and a movie: Treat her to a meal at that restaurant she’s been dying to try, or take a food tour of your city. Top the night off with a movie, and a drink at a swanky bar.
Theater Tickets or Concert Tickets: Take her to a show! Drama, music, excitement—you’ll surely step away from reality and get lost in the magic of a great theater show. Have a babysitter for the night? Book a romantic Airbnb or hotel room to sleep it off, and treat yourself to brunch in the morning.
Sports Game: Do you have a sports fan on your hands? Take her to see her favorite team play and cheer hard for the both of them—you’re her cheerleader, too!
Pottery class: Just pretend you’re Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze. That is all.
Finding some alone time is a luxury for new moms. Give her the gift of free time and relaxation with an ultimate spa day. Schedule for a masseuse to iron out her knots, and even an esthetician to make her skin glow. Our recommendation? Throw in a glass (or two) of bubbly over brunch to top it all off. And if mom would rather stay close to baby, look into services that make house calls!
Postpartum Massage: There’s a whole mess of aches and pains that come along with pregnancy and delivery. A postpartum massage is the perfect way to pamper her, and give her body some much needed relaxation.
Manicure & Pedicure: There’s something about having your nails and toes tidied up and massaged that makes you feel like a million bucks.
Skincare Spa Session: Facials, peels, deep cleanse, and even makeup—your lady is sure to love skincare treatments.
Brunch: Because no day is complete without a fantastic meal. If she doesn’t want to eat alone, call the babysitter and join her for a romantic brunch for two.
Early on it can be difficult to separate from your new baby, so a baby-friendly family staycation is a the perfect way to get away without getting away. Play the tourist in your own city, and you may discover gems you never knew existed.
Overnight stay at a local Airbnb: Book a night in a part of town you don’t know really well that’s cozy enough for your growing family.
Hire a photographer: Use Flytographer to book a session with a local photographer to capture your first family vacation.
Sightseeing: Visit local landmarks, historical buildings and neighborhoods, or schedule a private tour of a vineyard. Visit a local, artisan market and pack a gorgeous lunch for a picnic at the park or after a leisurely hike. If you have multiple kids, a visit to a local children’s museum will satisfy the whole pack.
Geocaching: Strap your baby in a carrier and go on a real life treasure hunt in your area! Using GPS coordinates, find hidden containers, document your findings, and return it for someone else to find. This is a fun and interactive way to get to know your city a little better.
Nothing beats melting into an insanely comfortable chair or couch, especially one that can also get baby to sleep. Invest in a great chair that she can escape to for a cozy nap, a cuddle session with baby, or even an in-home massage.
Good luck finding the time to maintain a clean house when the new baby has arrived. Give yourselves a break and hire a house cleaner to regularly tidy up the place so you don’t have to, and have a great babysitter on hand for you just need a night off. These work well as group push presents from friends and family!
The mom in your life is about to accomplish a magical thing that puts her body through a multitude of stresses and strains. Yes, babies are themselves treasures, but a small—or large—token of gratitude to moms is a practice we wholly support.
