Pushing 40 and taking the leap to condo ownership! .Over the years, I've been involved in conversations with friends, family and colleagues about how sad it is that mainstream U.S. culture celebrates weddings and births so much more than it recognizes other major life events for adults. Meanwhile, we singletons (and many others) soldier on. Well, with loved ones' encouragement, I'm joining the ranks of those who choose to celebrate the achievement of buying a home without partners to rely on. So here I have put together a housewarming registry for anyone who wants to and is able to contribute a little something to make this new home extra homey. I'll update it to the new address when I actually move. :).It's a complicated thing, emotionally and morally, buying a house. What right do I have to own a building, or in this case a piece of a building, when the original inhabitants of this region have said land cannot be owned, and when that land has been stolen? How is it right that I should own a home when so many others haven't had the same privileges of birth or luck or opportunities or health or......? It's only a small piece toward solving the problem, but I am making extra donations to Massachusetts-based tribes and a charity that combats local homelessness, and there are some options below to do the same..Thank you for being a part of my life, regardless of whether you participate in this endeavor!
