Be a Part of Strix Hill Farm!

I've dedicated Strix Hill Farm to producing food for myself, friends, and members of our community who don’t have enough to eat. The farm is named in honor of the Barred Owls who sing Raven and I to sleep at night – even though I know that one day, they’re bound to eat one of the chickens. I am so grateful to all of you who helped me get here, who didn't think I'd lost my mind (or at least held your tongues in my company), and who have celebrated with me along the way. I've been blown away by your interest, your questions, and your enthusiasm. I started a new job in April. It gives me more days working from home at the farm, but it's leaving things leaner than I'd hoped. I could sell what I grow and raise to bridge the gap, but that's not why I did this. I've started donating fresh eggs, fruit, and vegetables to the Vermont Foodbank. So that's why I'm turning to you. If you've been living vicariously through my adventures (while thanking god you don't have to beat your way to the barn through 8' snow drifts); believe in making sure everyone has access to delicious, locally-raised, organic food; or just dig me and want to call it a housewarming/birthday/what-have-you gift, I’d be honored if you decide to purchase something for the farm! The door is always open, and my favorite times are when all the beds are full. I’ve got beds to sleep 4, a futon for 2, 2 air beds – and that’s just in the winter. Once summer comes, 10 acres can accommodate a gang!!! Please come! We’ll all be waiting for you: me and Raven, the owls and coyotes, chickens and goats, bobolinks and fireflies, sunrises and stars. Their offspring will be breed quality (i.e. registered); their sale will support their ongoing upkeep. The pigs are also breed quality; their sales will also support ongoing upkeep. Honestly, at this point, I'm not sure I can turn them into bacon.
