Gearhart, OR is a small residential community that celebrates and respects the natural beauty of forest, rolling dune meadows and wide sandy beaches located in the north/west corner of OR, about 1.5-2 hours west of Portland. The town is 2 miles north of Seaside (similar to Hampton Beach, NH/Deefield Beach, FL) and 15 miles south of Astoria (location of The Goonies/similar to Rockport, MA/Pompano Beach, FL). McMenamins Gearhart is an 18-hole public golf course founded in 1892. McMenamins is a family-owned, PNW craft brewing company that have locations that range from neighborhood pubs to historic hotels where live music and history talks are the norm, soaking pools, movie theaters and other fun prevail (mcmenamins.com).
It is recommended that you land at Portland International Airport and rent a car to travel out to the coast. There are three options for driving to the coast
1. South to US-26W which will wind through farm lands, wineries, Clatstop State Forest, come north from Seaside up the 101N - scenery is magical.
2. South to US-30W which will follow the Columbia River coast line up through Astoria and down the 101S - scenery is also magical, small towns and sight seeing.
3. North to I-5N to US-30W which will go through Vancouver and Longview, WA and then follow the coast to Astoria and down to Gearhart

Tillamook Cheese Factory and Air Museum (35 miles south/east) - museum, gift shop, delicious ice cream
Fort Clatstop, Fort Stevens, Lewis and Clark National Park, Fort Astoria, Ecola State Park, Indian Beach Hike, Saddle Mountain, Haystack Hill State Park, Cape Meares/Tillamook Head Lighthouses, Columbia River Maritime Museum, Seaside Acquarium and of course hundreds of mile of Beach!
